"Every farmer has their tools - spade in light soils, picks in heavy clays, forks, rakes, ploughs and the like. The Rymbald sect of Aemean shun all these earth-breaking tools as godless, choosing instead to embrace the ‘plough-stave.’ This is a ‘Y’ shaped stave carved from a fallen branch from a Yew, the spurs of the stave are carved with symbols of Aemean whilst the butt is shod with amber. The stave is used both to dowse where the land should be planted, and as an ingenious means of planting the seed without breaking the holy earth.
After an appropriate spot is dowsed the butt of the stave is placed on the ground and the desired seed pressed between the fork of the spurs. The magic of the tongue then transports the seed into the earth at the ideal depth for its growth. The Rymbald consider the ‘plough-stave’sacred and refuse to sell them - or teach others how to make them despite many offers - and such have been significant for it is said that seeds planted with the ‘plough-stave’ rarely fail or grow sickly."
