The truffle-hogs of Ynwis are well-known, and found now on many islands. A beast of similar use but far rarer is the Morl, an animal domesticated by the jungle people of Maboo. The Morls sniff out not truffles but the parasitic Emberem Subductum Narcoti - frequently but entirely erroneously called dream lotus. The Emberem attaches itself to the roots of its host tree and only extends above the earth to flower for a few days each summer. Of course in the process of flowering the potency of the Emberem is all but destroyed so the ability of the Morls to sniff out the Emberem before it flowers is of key importance in harvesting the fungi.
Other than their keen noses the Morls are quite noxious beasts with little in the way of appealing features. Mostly hairless Morls have a deep musky odour and a distressing tendency both to sweat and to constantly brush against their keeper - making those who can stomach the slobbering Morl wealthy, if unwelcome company to any not addicted to the Emberem.
