This adventure involves helping a bullied merchant gain protection from his foes by means of battling the bureaucracy of Mineta. It can be completed in as few as 3 Actions, and results in multiple skill-ups and a point of Intelligence.


Stage 1. Crash[]

1. Go see what caused the noise.

Automatic : Expand Courage +1, go to Phase 2

Automatic : Expand Curiosity -1, end Adventure


Phase 2 : The Side Street Scrum[]

This Phase is a bit complicated. Only Options 4 and 5 advance to the next Phase.


1. Charm / Conversation vs 3 - Talk to the man to find out what happened.

Success : unlock Option 3, lock Option 2
Failure : unlock Option 4


2. Luck / Observation vs 3 - Take a look around.

Success : unlock Option 5, lock Option 1
Failure : unlock Option 4


3. Ask about the letter.

(Unlocked by Option 1 Success)
Automatic : unlock Option 4, choose again


4. Charm / Confidence vs 3 - Offer to help.

 See above to Unlock
Success : Expand Confidence +1, Expand Temperance +1, go to Phase 3
Failure : Expand Confidence -1, Expand Temperance +1, go to Phase 3


5. Maybe you should apologize.

 (Unlocked by Option 2 Success)
Automatic : Expand Diplomacy +1, go to Phase 3

4. Read the parchment.

5. Pay the 50 Pims.

6. Leave and come back later.

Automatic : Stress +1, pause Adventure

Stage 3. City Hall[]

Note : This stage is a bit complicated. Just pick option 1 or 2 and avoid options not listed here.


1. Luck / Conversation vs 4 - Ask the man at the desk for help.

Success : unlock Option 4, inform City Hall, lock Options 1 & 2
Failure : inform City Hall, locks Option 1 & 2
      -If you fail, you must eventually select Option 3 to Pause the Adventure
      -If you don't save and reload, then select only this option:
           Charm / Befriend vs 4 - Talk to someone.
                Success : Expand Bureaucracy +1
                Failure : +1 Stress


2. Luck / Scouting (Patrol) vs 6 - Try to find your own way around.

Success : unlock Option 4, inform City Hall, lock Option 1 & 2
Failure : no effect, choose again


3. Run away screaming.

Automatic :  +2 Stress, inform City Hall, pause Adventure


4. Charm / Storytelling vs 4 - Talk to the Guild Office Clerk.

Success : You can and should select "Tell the Clerk about the Cheese."
Failure : You can and should select "Beg the Clerk to Help You Out." Then Select
            "Tell the Clerk about the Cheese."  Expand Persuasion +1 SS


Note : Do NOT select "Go to the Policy Office" or "Remove the Cheese". The latter gives Vitality -1 and both options lead nowhere!

Instead, Select the following options in the this order:

  • Tell the Clerk about the Cheese.
  • Argue with the Clerk.
  • Continue the Argument
All Automatic : +2 Stress, Expand Passion & Insult +1 SS each


Then Select:

Success : -2 Stress
Failure : +2 Stress, Expand Passion +1 SL, select "Dump your evidence on his desk!"


Finally, select this option and finish!

  • Go back to the bureaucrat.
Automatic : Expand Intelligence +1, Expand Willpower +1 SL,
              add Ability: Tested by Bureaucracy, conclude Adventure
