Academagia Dating Rituals[]
Part I
"The official stance of Academagia is that students shouldn’t date while they are concentrating on their studies. Of course, the students at Academagia are adolescents, and it’s nearly impossible to prevent them from noticing members of the opposite sex as they get older. Once, the rituals of dating and courtship at the school were very well known, but after the Aron and Maegan episode a few years back, romance on campus is officially “frowned” upon."
Part II
"Aron was a third year student, quiet and reserved, but with a real talent for Incantation. In fact, he was so skilled at Incantation that he soon grew bored with his classes and began working in the dangerous art of Mastery. He kept his experiments with Mastery to himself, working late in his room, experimenting on the odd squirrel or snake he caught around the campus grounds, making them move according to his will. Aron realized the skill was mostly useless since public use of Mastery was more or less against the rules."
Part III
"Aron spent most of his days going to class and spent his afternoons and evenings alone. Then, one day in the dining hall, Aron spotted the most beautiful girl he had ever seen. The girl was beautiful, a fifth year, brilliant, and totally out of Aron’s league. There was something about her that just drew him to her. He decided then and there, on first sight, that he had to get to know the beauty better. While carrying his finished tray of beef goulash and beets (Aron’s favorite meal) to the garbage, he pretended to trip just as passed the girl’s seat. He made a fool of himself, naturally, but it was worth it: he saw her name on a notebook: Maegan Westernloy."
Part IV
"Maegan Westernloy: it was like discovering Electric Conversion Finger Bolts or pouring honey on one’s ears. The name rang like a bell for Aron, and he decided he needed to meet her. The difficulty, however, was that Aron was painfully shy. He knew he could never bring himself to talk to one as beautiful as Maegon, let alone ask her on a date. He knew that his only recourse was to use the magic he had been studying: Mastery. Romance would be his!"
Part V
"The next day, Aron waited in the dining hall for hours, praying that Maegan would show up. She didn’t. Feeling hopeless and dejected, Aron retreated to his room to spend more time practicing Mastery with two field-mice he had caught. He wanted to see if Mastery could be used to cause two minds to fall in love with each other. He concentrated on the two mice, using everything he had learned, and transferred to each mouse the thought of love for the other. Within minutes, the two mice were side by side with each other, twitching noses and entwining tails. Aron was thrilled!"
Part VI
"The next day in the cafeteria, he waited as he had the day before, and lo, the girl of his dreams appeared! At first, he was so awestruck by her presence that he didn’t even think he’d be able to breathe let alone cast a spell! The thrill and excitement of romance would be his! He squared his shoulders, straightened his shirt out, and he started tracing in the air the pattern for the Mastery spell he had spent so much time practicing. Within minutes, Maegan had gotten her meal (beef stew!) and sat down with a group of friends. Aron finished the spell, and aimed it at Maegan, hitting her square in the forehead! His romance was ready to begin!"
Part VII
"Maegan Westernloy didn’t know what hit her. One moment she was busy reviewing some Glamour spells with her friends, the next, she was in love with that strange boy with the eager smile across the cafeteria. Leaving her friends mid-sentence, she made her way across the crowded dining hall and approached Aron. “I’m Maegan, and I love you. Can I be yours forever?” She had no idea where this came from. Everything told her it was wrong, but she didn’t love him, yet she couldn’t control herself. The boy just smiled and took her hand."
Part VIII
"Maegan and Aron were inseperable, and Aron couldn’t be happier. He was in love, and for all intents and purposes, at least as far as the rest of the world knew, Maegan was in love with him. Everyone in the school came to know them as a couple. Aron secretly continued to place the Mastery spell on Maegan daily... until the day he forgot. That evening, he went to her dorm to pick her up for the date, and before he could so much as open the door a cup was thrown at his head, quickly followed by a book and a stapler. “You had me under a spell?” she shouted. “How dare you!” The cup and the book missed, but the stapler hit Aron right in the head, knocking him out."
Part IX
"Aron awoke to find Maegan wearing her formal robes, waving a wand over his head. “What’s going on?” he asked. Maegan didn’t answer, but continued the spell. Before he knew it, he was passed out again. He woke up later in his own room with a splitting headache, but seemingly none the worse for the experience. He went about his day, but then when night hit, he had an irresistible urge to see Maegan. He went to her dorm, and within moments he was doing her homework for her and cleaning her room! Aron knew what had happened instantly: Maegan must have been secretly learning Mastery spells as well, and she had entranced him! For the next two weeks, until Orso Orsi managed to trace the use of the spells finally, Aron was caught doing Maegan’s bidding."
Part X
"When Orso Orsi found out about the misuse of magic, let alone Mastery spells in the name of romance, he was furious! He placed a ban on all student dating, saying schools were no place for romance. There was outrage amongst the rest of the students, and when a group of professors finally took up the cause to implore Orso to lift the ban, he begrudgingly agreed. As a result of all this, dating has become something of a frowned upon activity for the young students at Academagia, only truly allowed amongst the upper classman."
