What is art? Is art writing, scripting pretty words across a bit of parchment or chiseling them into stone for others to read? Is it painting or drawing, making squiggly lines run down a medium and back again until someone recognizes the attempt? Is it movement made by arms and legs? Can art be defined, or is the definition of art the experience of it?

Art Appreciation[]

Creating fine art is one thing, but being able to appreciate someone else's work is an entirely different skill. A person can create art without realizing what they've done; this is the exact reason why critics evolved. Someone who truly appreciates art does more than just sit back and hammer away at another person's creation; they try to explain why it moves one as it does, thus prompting more people to emulate the artist in question in deed more than spirit.

Creativity[]

Dominant Attribute: Insight

People generally talk about Creativity as though it were an inborn quality and nothing more, but the fact is it's something you can learn and develop.  If you want to become a successful artist, one of the most basic things you can do is experiment: try to associate shapes and colors and ideas that most people wouldn't, and see what they inspire.  Do it until it becomes habit.

Dance[]

Dominant Attribute: Insight

More an art of endurance than of fine motions and grace, the skill of Dance takes dedication and constant repetition without the immediate laud and praise of one’s peers those fancier arts such as music and painting garners.  This is not to say that dance doesn’t require grace; far from it.  Dance, however, is far more than whether or not one can keep their fingers perfectly straight while executing a twirl; it’s about the weeks and months of training one undertook perfecting their twirl so they could spend the time on beautifying their fingers while dancing.

Music Theory[]

Dominant Attribute: Insight

Music Theory is... well, it's music seen from a bit outside the performer's ordinary perspective.  It's the study of pattern, technique, composition and style, and is frequently directed toward the comparison of musical norms between cultures and time periods - and it's very useful to anyone who hopes to compose music of his or her own.

Painting[]

Dominant Attribute: Insight

It is interesting to note how the art of painting has gone from famine to feast and back again over with the ebb and flow of time.  Generally thought of as a gentleman's art during the time of the Empire, the popularity of painting has largely disappeared amongst the 'gentle' class of people and returned to favor amongs the 'peasentry' class.  Lords, nobles, and ladies are only interested in painting when they are sitting for a portrait; beyond that, it is doubtful that any are interested in dirtying their hands.

Satyric Revelry[]

Although Satyrs are rarely seen these days, they once filled the woods with their dancing and song. You've gained a bit of knowledge about how the Satyrs used to dance- not a particularly useful skill...unless you happen to have hooves, of course.

Theatre[]

Dominant Attribute: Insight

For our purposes, Theatrical skills inform all the facets of the performing arts that don't directly have to do with Acting.  Someone with a great deal of skill in Theatre is familiar with famous plays, knows how to light an open-air stage after dark, can build a set from a nail, a broken hammer, and two salted kippers, and has a better than average chance of setting a good price for the cheap seats at the spur of the moment.  It's all the traditions and craft of dramatic performance, and none of the forgotten lines.
