Cante has a bit of a drinking problem. It’s not alcohol or anything like that, but it might be serious. Cante’s favorite subject, by far, is Artificing- especially potions. However, he’s not terribly gifted with them and Professor Leith isn’t about to slow down to help poor Cante. So, in order to improve, he frequently works on potions on his own, using himself as the test subject for his work. As I’m sure you can imagine, there’s always something very odd wrong with him. It’s not always major, but most of his potions don’t come out the way they’re meant to. This concerns everyone but Cante, oddly enough. What’s he trying to do?

Ability: Surety of Purpose

Cante’s single-minded purpose toward his goals keeps him focused on what he wants; in practical terms, Cante’s Dedication, Theory of Revision, and Applications of Arithmetic are slightly higher than that of most students his age (+2 each).

Knowing what he wants, Cante’s focus is a source of discussion among even the most uninterested of professors. Few know just what it is he’s after, and if he has told anyone other than Professor Leith, no one knows of it. Even Professor Leith isn’t keen on sharing his knowledge of Cante’s true purpose…if in fact he actually knows the true purpose behind Cante’s experiments.

Clique Abilities: Potion Failure = Potion Knowledge

Though he constantly fails in his potion making, Cante’s attempts have made him better than the average student at potion making; those who have him in their clique will enjoy Increases to their Analyze (+1), Alchemical Tools (+3), and Chemistry (+2) Skills, though the penalty is a slight Decrease to their Logic (-2).

Trial and error, that’s the way Cante learns about his potions. He doesn’t think things through all the time, but with failure comes experience. Though he may not be the safest person to hang around with sometimes, he’s pretty knowledgeable when it comes to the art of brewing.
