The art of civilized battle, as Dueling has been called, has a long and storied tradition that is so well documented as to be boring to all but the most dedicated Duelist. The Skill of Duel is the summation of the parts of Dueling, including Duel Conduct, Dueling Circles, Dueling Forms, and Demi-Tour; in this case, however, the whole is absolutely greater than the sum of its parts. Those who intimately know the Skill of Duel know how to properly triumph over their enemy while intelligently stacking the deck against their opponent. Better yet, those who are skilled in Duel know how to win even when the desk is stacked against them, making Dueling instructors highly sought after in the various Courts. One who knows and understands how to Duel will be well paid to teach the sons and daughters of Kings and Queens, and even a Duelist of middling skills will find a good home at the Court of some ambitious noble.

Demi-Tour[]

The highly specialized art of gaining initiative in a duel or combat setting is rarely useful outside of these settings, yet those who are skilled in the art of Demi-Tour often find themselves getting the upper hand over those who fail to study the art in many aspects. As everyone is likely to find themselves engaged in a duel at one point or another in their lives, it behooves all to at least gain a basic understanding of this narrow skill, if for no other reason than that gaining the upper hand against a powerful opponent may at least give one the chance to strike first and get in a lucky shot.

Duel Conduct[]

Having the 'right' Duel means having proper conduct by both parties, or so it has been said. While in some instances of life, those who cheat win big, in Duel, thos who study proper conduct have a better chance of coming out ahead. Many of the abilities and attacks that are learned over the course of proper Duel study are useful only in Duels or other combat situations, yet that is precisely where and when they are needed the most. Just as those who dare, win, those who study Duel Conduct (and its relatives) survive.

Duelling Circles[]

As part of the ritual of Dueling, both parties will come together and, after agreeing on the type of Duel that is to be held, will create the proper Circle that contains the rules of the Duel. Dishonorable as it may seem, it is entirely within the rules for oen to attempt to break the Dueling Circle after the Duel has begun and thus win an advantage there that could not be won during the negotiation of the rules. The stronger one's Dueling Circles Skill is, the better the chance that their Circle cannot be broken; conversely, the stronger one's Dueling Circles Skill is, the better a chance they have to break their own Circle and take the advantage thusly.

Duelling Forms[]

More than just the 'proper' and 'fancy' names of Dueling, the Skill of Dueling Forms teaches young Duelists how and why to accept or propose certain forms of Dueling. For instance, it would be foolish for a wizard skilled only in spells to accept a Duel that forced him into close combat, just as it would be equally foolish for a skilled swordsman to accept a Duel that forced him and his opponent to remain more than an arm's length apart. Those who study Dueling Forms will learn to understand the intricacies of selecting the proper Duel Type, while those who do not will often find themselves defeated before the Duel has even begun.
