A close cousin of the Spy Skill, the Espionage Skill uses a more 'hands on' approach to getting information. From Acting to Lip Reading, from Escape Artist to Deceit, the Espionage Skill encompasses the skills a person would need to use while at a gathering or party; while spies usually do their information collecting from a distance, those skilled in Espionage usually do so from right next to their target.

Acting[]

When should one smile and when should one frown in order to get an onlooker to feel a certain way? Those who are skilled in Acting know the answer to this question. The art of Acting is about facial expressions, hand movements, vocal projection, and much, much more. Those who can act often find themselves squeezing out of tight situations that those that can't act get stuck in. Better yet, those who can act are usually easily employed, as dukes, lords, and ladies are always looking for socially acceptable means of entertainment. That's not to say that the life of an actor is easy, however, just that one who can act should be able to make a living by hook or by crook.

Deceit[]

More subtle than outright lying, deceit is the art of making one believe something without expressly saying or doing anything that can be later revealed as baldfaced lie or shameless trick. Deceit is useful in many aspects of ordinary life, as any student (of any level) can attest to when asked about homework that was never done. Instead of speaking a direct lie ("My Familiar ate it!"), those practiced in deceit are more likely to say "Was that issued to everyone?" No lie has been spoken, yet the questioner is likely to think back and wonder if they did indeed express that the assignment was intended for all. Put simply, if ever there were a scale where 'bad' things were rated, deceit would lay far below lying...arguably...

Escape Artist[]

Dominant Attribute: Luck

Getting out of tight situations can take all kinds of abilities; the escape artist tries to learn as many techniques as he or she can before being put to the test.  Escape artists range from magical to mundane, from Rolando d’Antonio (famed for his ability to use everyday objects as wands and escape magically) to Escabara Iilya (famed for picking a pair of Inscribed Handcuffs with a pebble).  Escape artists usually excel at Skills such as Pick Lock, Deceit, Lying, Bluff, and Incantation, though any Skill can be useful to a truly experienced escape artist.

Infiltration[]

Dominant Attribute: Luck

Infiltration is all about getting into somewhere where someone doesn't want you to go.  This can be done through various methods, such as physically sneaking in, using magic to look around corners, and getting to know people in order to further your own cause.  In specific, those who study this Skill will find their relationships improving, thus opening new doors and avenues that would otherwise have remained closed.

Lip Reading[]

Dominant Attribute: Luck

For those who are unable to hear, reading lips is an ineffecient yet essential way to communicate with others in the world around them.  With the advances of medical magic, however, it is possible that this Skill will one day be relegated to only those who wish to do espionage or gossip.  Until then, however, it is considered necessary by both those who require it to deal with daily life and by those who wish to do harm to others in one way or another.  How it is used is completely up to the user.
