Description[]
The Academagia has seen animals that devour sound and dolls that walk and talk; they're rare, but there's precedent. Your Familiar, though, is something else - when you walk around with him, other mages whisper about Gates magic and impossible things.
And, yes, you can see it. Here's this weird furry thing that can apparently smell electricity in some strange way; he's got poison spurs in its back feet and a growl that makes big dogs nervous - he looks for all the world like a little monster some wizard put together from the parts of other animals.
He also likes to sit on your lap, and he has a way of rubbing his bill against your feet to reassure you when you're homesick or overworked.

Trivia[]
A Platypus is not a fable, it is a real animal native to Australia. Darwin said about it, it made him think there had been two Creators at work on it simultaneously. They really can sense electricity around their bill, like the contraction of muscles in prey, and the males do have venomous spurs that can kill dog-sized animals and incapacitate humans through pain too much even for morphine.
