Natural Philosophy is the name given to studies of the mechanics and nature of the world around us (generally in the absence of magical intervention). The field extends to the workings of the human body, larger patterns of human society, and the complicated exchange of forces that push up mountains and keep celestial bodies spinning in harmony. It's about careful observation and diligent reasoning rather than dramatic displays of personal power - and, as such, there are some who question its place in a school largely devoted to practical magical applications. Still, the faculty believe that grounding students in a solid understanding of how the universe works when it's not being mucked about can only improve their understanding of the consequences of mucking.
