Rimbal is a sport designed by wizards (for wizards) who felt that simply kicking a ball from one goal to antoher wasn't complicated enough for talents as mighty as their own. Rules remain surprisingly fluid, and contested even within professional leagues, but: there's a ball. There are ports scattered across the playing field through which each team wants to deliver said ball. (Note that fields are generally not of standardized dimensions, and are frequently built with hazards to make gameplay more exciting.) Magic - particularly Incantation - is permitted; a certain amount of bloodlettign is, if not encouraged, then at least allowed.

Actually, it's encouraged.

The Rimbal ball-game was taken out of the first year, but might be reintroduced as a means to compete between Colleges in the next year.

Endurance[]

Dominant Attribute: Fitness

A strict measure of how much physical punishment a person can take and how long they can suffer through said punishment.  A Rimbal player or wrestler won’t get very far without a decent grasp of Endurance.  Unlike most other Skills, Endurance is rewarding to those who pursue it simply because of its immediate physical gratification.  You see results quickly enough to appreciate the fact that you’re increasing your ability even as you work through the soreness of said ‘learning’.

The game of Rimbal is not as homogenous a game as outsiders may think, for just as there are different schools of magic, so there are different schools of Rimbal theory.  Some believe that offense is the best weapon; others believe defense is the cure for all.  The plays that come out of these different schools can often point one to the place where a certain player learned Rimbal, for certain regions have tendencies for certain types of plays.  Those who wish to better themselves in Rimbal should study the plays of all regions in hopes of learning to counter and perfect each type.

As with any sport, each position has a role to fill while one the 'field'.  The Skill of Rimbal Positions teaches a person how to fulfil each role and, along the way, teaches some valuable tricks and skills that can be used elsewhere.  Successful Rimbal players know each and every position, even if they cannot play each one with equal ability.  Those who wish to assemble the perfect Rimbal team will wish to study the positions so that they can know what can and cannot be done and by whom.

Simply charging into a game of Rimbal is the worst thing a team can do.  In fact, only the losing teams do this; winning teams take a moment to look over their opponents, plan, and attack accordingly.  The strategy is always to win, of course, but how one goes about achieving that strategy is about the tactics one uses.  Whether it is defending or attacking, one must first know the best thing to do in a situation before attempting to do it.  This, of course, is where the study of Rimbal Tactics comes into play.  Those that learn the tactics will learn how to win.
