Zoology is the study of animal behavior and physiology, typically using systems of description and taxonomy dating all the way back to Azimus Magnus and the first generation of declared natural philosophers. Academagia's zoology programs are widely respected and open to all students, but are most famously associated with those who live under Morvidus's banner.

Amphibians[]

Though the denizens of the Empire are warm-blooded, this does not erase the fact that many more denizens of the world as a whole are cold-blooded. The amphibians are the scaly and warty creatures leaping into the swamps and the pages of folklore. To study animals is commendable, but to study amphibians is a job for the more adventurous. For they do not come to you, and they reside in murk and darkness. Yet perhaps their hearts are in light but we do not know for sure. Still, there is a way to find out, isn't there?

Birds[]

The skies of Choris are usually marked with the brilliance of the creatures known as Birds. Though some have not been given the power of flight, it is those that do that have been documented as the most miraculous. There is no magic involved, for all flying birds are bestowed the gift through the most natural of means. As flying is the target of many spells, birds are considered one of the most revered creatures. To study them may in turn lead to the study of us.

Fish[]

Legends tell of times when man could eat nothing but fish and live a long and healthy life. These legendary times were before the land was sundered and sent skyward, of course, and the times of free swimming fish in huge bodies of water has long since passed. Instead, smaller fish navigate rivers and streams while their slightly larger cousins occupy lakes and man-made ponds. Those who study the Skill of Fish are true believers in Zoology, for only those who truly with to understand each and every type of animal would bother to study that which seems to have little-to-no value for men.

Insects[]

If it has an exoskeleton, and it has a body made of a head, a thorax, and an abdomen, odds are it's going to end categorized as an insect for study - even if it's eight feet long and has a stinger made of fire. This is one of the more humble chapters of the Zoologist's book, but a vital one nonetheless.

Mammals[]

The study of mammals is the study of ourselves. Not, of course, that you're likely to mistake any of your fellow students for marmots - but the differences between humans and the animals nearest to us go well beyond hair and milk for our young. A basic understanding of the nature of mammalian life is essential for any would-be zoologist.
